Though we live in a rural area, not all of our family live a 'country' life. We have 2 families who are executive like with nice houses, cars, etc. As homesteaders, we do things very differently (gardening, scratch cooking, herbs, wood cutting & burning, clothes line, etc..) from our family members but still get a long with all of them. Sometimes I wonder what they think, but they have never said anything negative or unkind. We still have ways of supporting each other though we have different lifestyles, it's all works out. I guess we have all been around long enough to accept our differences.
Most of our friends have the same lifestlye/values. I value these relationships as much as family. billow, I hope you get to the treasure store with your daughter! My college kids have fun shopping at the thrift stores too. They have a lot of clothes & give a lot away! |

All of my family and friends think I have lost my mind. When I started my garden they said 'why don't you just go to the grocery store like normal people', when I stopped using shampoo and laundry detergent they just rolled their eyes...I think the final straw for them was when I sewed my own reusable menstrual pads, am I crazy? Is this , to quote my sister, 'going too far'?
I like using things I make myself that are closer to nature and a lot less harmful to the planet. |

Stay firm and steady in your beliefs and committments Ricrochet! No matter what those around you think....you will be more inwardly contented and comfortable with yourself in the long run. Plus, you will be able to take care of you and yours, should a disaster strike. Welcome to the group!

Ricrochet,
Of course, I'm a man; and alot old fashioned. So, I dare not comment on the seamstress work you are doing to be more self sustainable. However, I say the same thing as Billow. "Stand firm!" As soon as a little wobble happens to their wheel they'll come running for help and answers. Keep it up! |
