use spray starch or steam? I've noticed that I always use spray starch when I iron. I was raised using it and still use it now. I get frustrated otherwise.

I have never used spray starch. I do use steam in all my ironing, including my quilting. I remember my mom's iron. In those days, you didn't have the steam and she would wet a linen dishtowel and place it on whatever she was ironing and then iron over the towel. I remember steam rising from that towel and thinking thats pretty cool.

I have never used starch for my ironing either. I do use steam though--always.

I only use spray starch on rare occassions - usually when it's something that I want to stay somewhat stiff, such as a dresser doilie. I do use steam always.

steam. Starch only for when I wore a nurses hat although I have a can of spray starch, bought for some reason but can't for the life of me remember what.

I am another starcher here. I always use spray starch or sizing when I iron.

I remember both of my Grandmother using laundry sprinklers when they ironed. One had a real laundry sprinkler and the other used a pop bottle with special top that let it sprinkle water, (I remember it was a RC cola bottle :) ). Does anyone use sprinklers or remember them?

I rarely iron anything, but when I do I use steam.

I use both. We wear mostly pure linen and cotton clothes and they look ugly if not ironed. I like ironing! In the book, Home Comforts, she calls it the queenliest of all the home arts". That book also reminded me of the water sprinkling that used to happen when I was a kid. My mother used to sprinkle all the cotton clothes and roll them up about a 1/2 hour before she ironed. This book also recommended doing that for a good result.

I make my own starch and put it in a sprayer bottle but also have the iron set on high stream. My son does his own ironing now and I caught him ironing his underpants last week!

I use spray starch or spray plain water. I don't put water in my iron because the hard well water will ruin it over time.
