We have the ugliest mailbox. I know in the overall scheme of things, it's just a mailbox, but it was the first thing I noticed when we came to look at the house.

Our mailbox is attached to our house. One of the previous owners took a post mount mailbox and hung it on the house. Needless to say, it's hideous!

I want to call the post office and see what options we can have. I think we can have a pole mounted, but am not sure. I notice the neighbors all have their boxes either pole mounted or next to their doors or even near their garages, so I think we can. Are door slots still allowed?

What type of mailbox do you have?

I would so much rather a slot into the house. Kids in the neighborhood, get into the mailboxes. Ours was painted for us by a old friend of dh's who used air brush to paint a southwest motif onto it. Ours is post mounted.

I would love to have a pretty mailbox but ours is constantly being bashed in by teenagers out joy riding. Why they think this is fun I don't know. Our mailbox is post mounted at the end of the driveway and you can't see the house from the driveway. Thus it lends itself to misbehaving teens.

Ours is not bad, it needs repainting though. I am deciding if I want to do something decorative or if I will just make it black again.

Sara, how long have you lived there now? I think once I heard that when you move in you can change it but not after. Let us know what the post office says. I wouldn't want a door slot because I have a screen door. I keep that locked to keep dd in and get the breeze. I would have to either remove it or keep the screen open.
