A friend was over the other night and talked about the quilt she made for her nephew out of old jeans. She just cut squares and along with the jean squares, she had picked up a couple pieces of material with little tractors on it. Her nephew likes tractors and so she cut a few squares from the tractor material and placed them in with the jean squares. She said it turned out really cute and he really likes it.

Have you ever made a quilt with jean material?

No, but I want to. I'm currently collecting jeans. I thought I had a few pairs of adult jeans to use, but then I learned that they have lycra in them :(

Yes I have--- they are soooooo heavy to work with, but well worth the effort.

I've made ones with just squares of denim- laid out in rows, or in brick patterns. I've made one where the denim is cut in circles with squares of fabric in the centers and the "flaps" sewn down over the edges of the squares (looks kind of like a cathedral window quilt)

No but I've been saving dh's old work jeans (thread bare in places that just won't do, if you know what I mean.....) for ages now. I'm going to do that. I've always wanted to make each of the dk's one.

Yes I have. That's a great idea to put in a fun material here and there! I'm going to be making one for my nephew in the next year or so and that's a great idea.

No, but I have a whole pile of jean scaps I'm saving to make one. I even have some print jean fabric from when dd was a little tyke that should add some oomph to the quilt.
