How much do you recycle off old clothing? Do you take the buttons, zippers and lace off. Do you save any material from old clothing? How and what for?

I always take buttons, zippers and lace off. The material part often goes out into dh's workshop for cleaning purposes.

What about you?

Zippers, buttons, lace, appliques - anything I think I might be able to use later on something else.

The material itself? Depends on what it is-- some gets cut up for quilts (denim, corduroy and velour especially) some gets remade into children's clothing which I then donate to charity, some goes into the rag pile for crocheting rugs and placemats.

:mwhistle: I don't save anything. How sad is that?

If the clothing is still good enough to pass on to someone else, I donate it. If its too far gone and all worn out, I save the buttons. I also save the fabric if it looks like something I can use later in a craft or costume. After that it becomes cleaning cloths. I do not save zippers. I have a terrible time sewing them and avoid them at all cost.

I save buttons, sometimes trim and lace. And I will save pieces of the fabric from jeans and other pieces that aren't worn out. I don't keep zippers because I've never learned how to put one in, may have to learn some day. Anything too far gone to be of use is turned into a rag for dh's garage. If I have some really nice clothes that dd has outgrown then I usually give them to someone who can use them rather than cut them up, or I yard sale them.

I save buttons, lace, special patches, but I don't always save zippers and elastics...I don't have the time to unsew them from the clothes...If a peice of clothes is too nice I also donate it...

I use a single edge razor blade to remove them--- fast and efficient. I just have concentrate though, so I don't remove my fingers as well.

I save the buttons and zippers if the clothing is too far gone to donate. I cut them up for dusters and rags as well.
