Has anyone here ever frozen full gallon jugs of milk? If you have, what's the maximum time you would recommend them to be frozen before using? Will it stay fresh for the same amount of time after it's thawed as it would have had it not been frozen? I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to buy ahead when it's on sale....makes me so aggravated to have to pay $3.19 for a gallon of milk - especially when it sure isn't the farmer that's getting the money.

Thanks for any advice! :)

I have not frozen milk but have known several people in the past who have. I'm not sure of the length of time it lasts after opening, but I do remember them saying that you need to leave some space in the gallon before freezing and that you need to stir it once it's unfrozen. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Yes you can freeze milk, just make sure you leave some expansion space. As the milk freezes, it expands.

I wouldn't freeze milk for much longer than 3 months.

I have frozen gallons many times, but I really like freezing 1/2 gallons better, so I stock up on them when they go on sale. The 1/2 gallons thaw much more quickly.
