Oh yeah, a nice, big, still warm from the vine tomato, some salt and pepper, add a little Miracle Whip and some bread - absolute heaven! I can't wait!

Yes I am for sure. I purchased 3 tomatoes yesterday and the taste of them was UGH!!!! There is nothing like a fresh tomato, pulled right off the vine. After eating a few of those, then there is nothing like a fresh tomato, slicced with a couple slices of nice crisp bacon, on a couple slices of homemade bread toasted, with a little bit of Miracle Whip. YUMMIE!!!

Now I'm getting hungry.

I like mine with mustard and red onion on toast for lunch. Nummy! I'm also craving ripe watermelon and fresh peaches that are sun-ripened.

I wouldn't even mind if it was a itty bitty cherry tomato. I was at the grocery store today eyeing the tomatoes. I was considering getting a couple hot house tomatoes. But I smelled it and it smelled like nothing. I asked dh, aren't they suppose to smell like tomatoes? I didn't buy any. I'm so spoiled for the real thing. I haven't "bought" a tomato in years!

Prairiemaid,
You sure hit the nail on the head...the store bought ones smell and taste like absolutely nothing....like PLASTIC!!! Bleck!!! I would rather have none than try to eat one of those pathetic excuses for a tomato!

My favorite way to eat them is sliced thick with a toasted tuna sandwich and cottage cheese on the side.....mmmmm.

Unfortunately I didn't can any spaghetti sauce last summer and I am sure missing having that fresh grown taste right now! The store bought sauces just don't compare to fresh.

Guess I'll go stare out at the garden now and start thinking about where to plant the tomatoes this spring!!! I can't wait either!!! :hurray:

There's an old bluegrass song, that goes:
Ther's two things, that money can't buy,
That's TRUE LOVE and HOME GROWN TOMATOES,
HOME GROWN TOMATOES,
HOME GROWN TOMATOES...
Everybody, sing along...

Oh the torture! I'm sitting here with 5 inches of snow and freezing cold and you all are discussing home grown tomatoes! Will spring never come????? I'd love to have a nice tomato right now too, either on a biscuit with a little mayo and salt and pepper or with a pile of cottage cheese. (drooling on the keyboard, lol) Ohhh, hurry up summertime!

We had so many tomatoes last year from our garden and I had sun ripened fresh juicy tomatoes at least once a day. I love them plain, in sandwiches, and as part of a fresh pasta sauce with fresh oregano and basil from the garden. Absolute heaven!!!!

Oh you are so lucky.

Right when ours started getting good we had a bad hail storm and they got ruined. I could eat them everyday as well Debbie. I would kill for a couple big red tomatoes for a sandwhich or for a few roma tomatoes for a salad. YUMMY!!!
