On Friday, I noticed some goats all by themselves and sure enough - we've got babies. I'm not sure just how many so far, I think about 6. Mel had to bring one in Sat. because it was just too cold and it couldn't stand. So all day Sat. and all night we kept it by the wood stove and bottle fed it. Yesterday afternoon it had perked up so he took it back to its mommy. Hopefully they will still bond or we could be bottle feeding it the whole time. I love baby goats. They are so cuddly. It's hard to not handle them but the mama's don't like you to get anywhere near them.

oh thank goodness Pat, the mums were just late, the cats werent' getting the babies. Or I hope that when the tally of babies is added up, there is the right amount.

Woo hoo glad those babies have finally arrived. They are so cute when they are little. Do you name your babies? Congratulations Pat. :hurray:

We don't name the babies. I can't tell which is which or who it belongs to but Mel keeps it all straight and can tell. I just love the babies and even though its tons of work, I do like it when we get one that has to be bottle fed. (Mel will shoot me for saying that - he hates bottle babies)

Oh Pat, he is just so cute. Gotta love them when they are that little. Did the mom and him bond now or will you have to end up bottle feeding him.

The mama goat took him back. He was having a little trouble nursing but finally got the hang of it. I'm sure she was relieved.

How cute! I love baby animals of any kind (although I don't think I'd be very fond a bat...even as a baby!). I'm sure you enjoyed playing with that one.

We now have several babies, 7 I think, but unfortunately have lost quite a few to the cold (11 I think). The moms take them out on the pasture and forget them and by the time we find them they have died. It's so sad. Mel tends to not tell me unless I make it a point to ask. We hardly ever loose any in the warmer months. Mel is supplemental feeding some with the baby bottle to try and give them a little extra nutrition. We do everything we can to keep them in the shelter, but goats gotta roam and those mamas don't keep up with where they left the babies.
