Where do you find most of your vintage recipes? Do you look on the net, trying to find old cookbooks or do you have some that have been passed down from generation to generation?
I would really like to make a small cookbook (for my own purposes) of vintage recipes, to give to dd for Christmas. She is our pioneer girl and I know she would get such a kid out of it.

I have one cookbook. It's called Come 'n Get It - Favorite Ranch recipes It has old recipes and some old pioneer stories and some pictures. It's the kind of book you like to sit down and read. I like the recipes in it because they are all regular recipes with ingredients I usually have on hand. The origin of the recipe or where it got it's name is interesting. The Sheep Wagon Cake recipe I posted is a good example of what the book is like. It's also Canadian. :)

The BC women's Institute Cookbook circa 1956 is a really good collection. Each region contributed their own bits to it, and made it a wonderful little patch of BC history, but also included some old recipes in there for various items including dealing with small game animals that we don't think of now.

I have several rationing cookbooks from WWII that I love, as well as a Great Depression cookbook that is the one I couldn't live without. I've also got a lot of rationing cooking sites, British cooking sites, and things like that marked in my favorites to give me inspiration.

Remember this site? It has some victorian recipes and some nice pictures that you could print to put into a cookbook for her.
