It worked great to do it this way. We just emptied the freezer into boxes, laundry baskets and bags and set them out on the back step. It's so cold out that there's no worry about food defrosting! Much easier than doing it when it is warm and trying to keep everything cold.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much was in the freezer. Now I just have to keep my inventory up to date!

SMART LADY!!!
I should do that too, it's more than due, I never got round to it this summer, feeling sick and all, then the surgery, and the ice is thick and yucky. :mwhistle:

Hmmmmm good idea, I'm with Margery. The ice build up is awful, I just didn't get around to doing it this summer. :mwhistle:
I do want to get a new freezer this year, one more energy efficient. This one is 21 years old uses lots of energy I'm sure.

OK ladies...I have to do this. I have to put my plug in for upright freezers. Maybe that's the type all of you have, but if you don't you should definately look into that kind the next time you're in the market for one.
We got ours about 3 years ago and it is wonderful! I still have a chest freezer too, but what a pain in the next by comparison. You have to practically stand on your head and move 20 things to get to what you need at the bottom - whereas with the upright kind, it's as easy as looking through your refrigerator.
Just had to throw in my 2 cents! Since everyone was so nice to share your laundry tips with me....I'm returning the favor by telling you how much easier your life will be with an upright freezer! Hurray for convenience and organization!!! :hurray:
