My very favorite place to camp is in the bush, where there is no one else around. We've often found places that we've just pitched the tent and enjoyed the quiet, rather than camping at a park where you can hear your next door neighbour.
I also love camping in the mountains.
How about you?

We like to camp near the lake. It doesn't matter where as long as there is water nearby.

I love a place near here called Meremac Springs. It is on the mouth of the meremac river. And it is privately owned and I feel safe there camping with Alex alone.

I am not a camping sort of person. When I was younger I enjoyed camping in a state park that has a lake near here but the older I get the more I need close bathrooms and soft beds. For those of you that do camp, enjoy it! I do remember that it really is a special type of relaxation.

Big Bend in Texas is the place to go if you want to not be around anyone (backcountry areas available), regular tent and vehicle camping is done in the basin of the mountain. It's deserty and very hot some months (unbareable to our friends and family), so we bring lots of water.
All the parks in New Mexico are nice (read clean). Oliver Lee Park has a beautiful sunset. City of Rocks is a maze (literally). Hueco tanks in texas is interesting(some climbhiking, owl and bats fly by at start of evening) though it costs a tad more and you HAVE to go through orientation so they know you have been warned about not destroying ancient rock art. Llano river state park in Texas is a good small place to go- small mountain to hike, and a beautiful little bit a water (we went on a hot day, the water was cool, clear and turquoise). Sam Houston park, in Texas had the largest fireflies i'd ever seen. I hope I got these places and respective states all right, on't have the map in fron of me. oh, and do not go to fontaine bleu state park in Louisiana, they had the most mosquitos, during the day, I'd ever been plagued with. Hillsborough state park in Florida is were I spent my summers, mom was a lifeguard, a river runs through it, some rapids, a manmade but cleansed river water pool is there, too.
Well here in Michigan almost everyone head "UpNorth"
While we will probably be heading up there for a Memorial Day Family Get-Together, we are going to head to the western coast instead. Dh and I have gone on some trips there and its GORGEOUS!
