Years ago, I started two. Each Christmas the kids pick a decoration off the Christmas tree. When they leave home, they have their own set of Christmas decorations. The 3 oldest kids loved having their own decorations when they set up their own homes.

We also started the tradition of having candlelight supper twice a week during the long winter months and me reading a chapter from a book each time. They have loved that and were just asking me again when we would be starting it. We usually start it once day light saving time comes.

Ours is related to Christmas as well....

Each child receives an ornament, we've been doing this since the boys were little.

Attend church Christmas Eve.

Read about Jesus' birth on Christmas morning and have a birthday cake for Jesus later in the day.

We always had a family night where we played board games or cards. We got away from it over the summer, time to get back to it.

What a wonderful idea with a candlelight dinner and book reading........may use that one!!!

We make "Santa's Foot prints" on the hearth in front of the fireplace. We take dh's boots and get them muddy, them print the mud onto the tile of the hearth. (if you do this, wash the boots off afterwards so the kids don't put 2 and 2 together! ;)) Then in the morning they have evidence of santas visit.

Almost forgot. we are starting a new tradition for Birthdays and Christmas. The day after each of those days we will be gathering old toys and clothes together to give to charity. :)

We are still new at creating traditions with our own little family.

Gabe's dad does the paternal blessing on New Years. I find it a very special thing and we intend to carry on the tradition. Here's a little about it.

Making a Happy Birthday Jesus cake and singing Happy Birthday. Also, driving around together looking at Christmas lights/decorations while listening to Christmas music.
