View Full Version : What projects are you currently working on?
Michelle 12-28-2003, 01:40 PM I am still working on a rail fence lap quilt (shouldn't be too much longer before I get the top completely pieced). I also have a heart applique (blech!) wallhanging that I need to finish. I started that one a couple of years ago, but I had trouble with the applique, and I set it aside.
And now my latest, that I wasn't expecting, is that my mother said that she wants me to finish the sampler quilt I was making for her. I showed her the block I finished and had put the borders on, and I explained that I was having trouble with the other blocks that I tried to make for the wallhanging. I told her that I decided to just do the one block (the one that came out the best IMO) and asked her to show me how to quilt it. Well wouldn't you know, she wanted to see all of the blocks that I made, and she said she wants me to finish it using all of those blocks, mistakes and all.
I was hoping to be done with that one so I could move on. I hate having a project with a deadline, and I hate making something for someone with them waiting on it. :sigh:
Anyway, back to my original question: what are you working on?
Old fashioned mamma 12-28-2003, 03:30 PM Michelle, theres a lesson in that part of "mistakes and all". Not that its your mom that said it. Its that no quilt is ever perfect. Thats what is so beautiful about quilts, you can make a mistake here or there. I'm glad your getting back to finishing the sampler quilt. Just take your time and never mind about any time line or that someone is waiting for it at the other end. I have complete confidence in your that you'll finish it.
Okay, back to your question. Right now I'm working on hand quilting my challenge quilt. I'm almost finished the centre block, but I've spent hours at it. I'd like to get that done in the next couple of months.
I also want to finish a few of the other quilts that I've got the tops done, but the quilting now needs to get done.
I have a mystery quilt to start yet, a challenge that were doing at the village and I also want to start the BOM for 2004 that I've posted at the village.

Oh I know all about mistakes being ok. It's not that, it's that some of the blocks were just downright awful--not lining up right, crooked, etc., and I really just wanted to give her that one block and be done with it.
Plus, when I gave her the block, she spent 20 min trying to figure out how I made my mistakes. Just not something I wanted to hear when I was giving her something I worked so hard on.
Now I need to rip out the yellow "sashing" that I put around the block I was giving her so that I can add sashing for more than one block when I make the entire wall quilt.
Plus, if I'm ever to make something for my brother and his fiancee for their wedding, I've got to start now.
I'd really like to make something and KEEP it for once!
Old fashioned mamma 12-28-2003, 03:50 PM Michelle, can I make a suggestion. I would start something for yourself as well. You deserve it. I was the same way, always making quilts for others. I decided I wanted some quilts in my home. Funny, Bob asked me last night, who is that quilt for (my challenge one) and I said "for us". Nobody gets this quilt, its for our bed!!!
Can you work at more than one project at a time? Even if you don't get yours done right away, just make a commitment of working say 1/2 hr. every other day or every 3 days (I'm just using this as an example). Its kinda like giving yourself time just for YOU!!!!
I also have to say, if someone looked at my quilt and took apart all the mistakes with their mouth, I'd take it back in an instant. I'm sorry, but how rude!!! If they are doing it in a kind way because you've asked, then thats a different story. You had done a wonderful job on that block.
