Do you use a cast iron frying pan?

We do sometimes. We used to all the time but it currently needs recuring so it's being used sparingly now. I love corn bread cooked in it. I don't think corn bread tastes the same any other way. The pan Mel uses has the sloping sides and is about 9" I guess. I have one larger that was my grandmother's that I have put up and one small one that I love to use for corn bread. It's probably only about 6" across, just the right size for us. When I grew up, the only frying pans we had were cast iron. I can still taste corn, fresh off the cob, cooked in that pan. YUM.

How about you?

I use to have one years ago and loved it, but between all our moves, it somehow got lost. I do plan on purchasing a new one along with a dutch oven this coming year. I love cooking in them.

Cast Iron flying pans is all I use. I have 2 sets of 3. One set with wooden handles and one set with iron handles.

Prairiemaid, if I remember right you also have a Dutch oven as well. How do you find cooking with that?

I have lots of cast iron and use it constantly. This is how I clean it:

I don't do all mine at once, this was all in storage and had gotten rusty and crusty.
It's our burn pile. When the coals get real low, put in the pans and when they turn ash grey, turn them over. They will wash up really nice and be ready to season again.

It's great! It's a little heavy to work with but the cast iron distributes the heat evenly. Everything comes out delicious.

We have a set of about 6 cast iron frying pans and I love, love, love em! I couldn't cook without em. Now there is that one that is so big that I can barely lift it...I might could do without it;)

When I first married, all I cooked in was cast iron (like my mom) but now,I rarely use my large frying pan but I have a smaller one I cook cornbread in. Cornbread would not be cornbread if it wasn't cooked in an iron skillet :D
