View Full Version : What gadget have you wasted money on?
paelthom 12-19-2003, 04:49 PM For us it would be the waffle maker. It only makes one waffle at a time and makes a mess. The waffles never turn out exactly right and I don't think it was worth the money. I would just prefer good old pancakes cooked in the frying pan or on the griddle.
Old fashioned mamma 12-19-2003, 11:14 PM I'd have to say a toaster oven. I ended up taking it back. It was a waste of $$ for us, didn't cook well and for the cost of it, wasn't worth it to keep just to heat up a few things. Next (you'll probably not believe this) for us would have to be the microwave!!! We haven't had one in years. We mostly just used ours for heating water and cooking a few veggies.
paelthom 12-20-2003, 04:34 PM CJ - our microwave is used for the same thing.
lacyj 12-20-2003, 11:39 PM Have you ever tried sour dough waffles, with a dolip of sour cream and strawberry jam, heaven, or real maple syrup and real butter? If you have sourdough starter, use a recipe that has the eggs seperated and the whites whipped, and folded in. They'll be lighter than air and crisp.

paelthom 12-21-2003, 11:43 PM Sounds yummy.
Aussie Mamma 12-28-2003, 03:21 AM A breadmaker. Even though I got it cheap on clearance from Target, I've never used it.
Old fashioned mamma 12-28-2003, 03:51 AM You know what, I forgot about the bread maker as well. I ended up trading mine with the neighbour for a couple of painted craft items. I would care to wager a bet that many would answer the same as you Aussie Mamma, but all the breadmakers I see at yard sales.
doodlebug 01-01-2004, 03:05 AM A breadmaker too, mine justs gathers dust most of the time. I use it maybe once a year out of pure guilt because I requested it as a Christmas gift from dh one year and the things were quite expensive back then. Also a blender, it gets used very little.
Aussie Mamma 05-22-2004, 01:12 AM Well, I have to say I started using my breadmaker a while back and it was a big hit with my family!
smnoel 05-22-2004, 03:47 AM I love my waffle maker. :mwhistle:
For me it's the food processor.
Old fashioned mamma 05-22-2004, 01:43 PM I love my food processor. I wouldn't be without one.
isaacsmommy 05-24-2004, 02:15 PM I'd have to agree with the bread maker, although it was a gift from my mil, so I guess we didn't actually waste $ on it. Otherwise, probably the food processor, I used it some for baby food, but now that ds's eating all table food, I just don't have a use for it!
paelthom 05-24-2004, 05:17 PM I hardly ever use the food process either, especially not all the weird cutting disks or the meat grinder.
maggie 05-25-2004, 09:09 AM Mine's a crepemaker. Thought it would be wonderful, but instead found it fiddley and time-consuming! And besides....we hardly ever ate crepes anyway! (Whatever was I thinking when I bought it!! :icon2: )
Then there's the breadmaker...it now resides under the stairs somewhere. Mind you, it was used nearly every day for the first year....until I realised our waists were expanding and expoding with all the yummy fresh bread! :mwhistle:
paelthom 05-25-2004, 02:03 PM LOL about the breadmaker. I wanted one so bad when they first came out but I just knew that we sit around eat bread and gain lots of weight. I know I have no self control - so I just did not ever buy one.
