We have a black plastic one which I don't really like. It doesn't work near as good as our old one did when we lived in the city. I'm thinking of replacing it and wondered what type you have or use.

I still don't have one. How about the rest of you? Any composter recommendations you'd like to share?

We don't have a composter. We simply make a big pile of leaves and 'stuff' from the goats pen and the chook house. It always seems to heat up quickly. DH tosses it over now & again and in no time at all we have lovely compost for the garden.

Sounds like a good plan to me Maggie.

I built one out of a wooden pallet. I wrapped 3 sides with chicken wire, leaving one side, and the top and bottom open. I just pick it up and move it over a few feet when I need to, then shovel it back in. It's actually quite a bit of work but I am making dirt....

Ours is a garbage can with holes drilled around the top. There are too many varieities of poisonous snakes here for me to consider having an open air one.

YUCK! You wouldn't catch me poking around in the garden if NZ had snakes! Thank goodness we don't.

Just a couple of weeks ago we started a "pile" -- and that is about all it is. A pile with some fence wire wrapped around it. I don't know that I'm going to like it and have been mulling some different confinement methods. I'm thinking of cement blocks on three sides. We'll see what my husband and I can agree upon.
