Growing up, my mom always bought us fun candles for Christmas. I remember snowmen, tree, and bell shaped candles to name a few. We would light them for a short time on Christmas Eve. Through the years, I remember them getting a little bit banged up, but I LOVED them so much.
My little family is relatively new, so I am trying to really start some traditions for us. Our families are all so far and aren't often visiting during holidays, so it's even more important for me to do extra special things with our little family.
I was thinking about my holiday candles from childhood and thought how I want to go and get the children one candle each this year.
When I was a child, I never thought something so simple could bring such a warm memory later.
Do you purchase holiday candles?

Sara, you just brought back some memories for me as well. When our older kids were little, we use to always buy Christmas candles or be given some. I loved them.
We haven't had any for awhile because we aren't near a city. When I go into the city, I need to make a list of things I want to purchase. I always forget to get candles of any kind. They don't have candle parties out here either, so I can't even purchase any that way.
Note to myself - make a list when going into city.
I think that would be a wonderful tradition for your little family.

I love jar candles in seasonal scents. I have Gingersnap burning right now. m-mm Last year for Christmas my DS (20 then) gave me a little one called "Christmas Eve" which he had me open on Christmas Eve so we could enjoy it. Then he also gave me a large Peppermint one that I opened on Christmas morning. They were very special because I don't usually splurge on Yankee Candles (especially the large ones) being that they are so pricey and he knew that, and wanted to get them for me.
As for decorative candles, I don't usually purchase them but have been given some lovely ones from one of my sil over the years. One I just can't bring myself to light is a simple ivory candle (quite large) with a raised gold Partridge in a Pear Tree theme. It's so beautiful! This year when they came for Thanksgiving, she gave me a dark blue candle with a snowman and outdoor snow scape painted on it.. another one I'm going to have a hard time lighting. :icon_bigg
I think that's a lovely tradition to start with your children Sarah... especially since it's one you remember fondly from your own childhood.

No we've never had them that I can remember. I have always bought the kids 1 special ornament each year (usually after Christmas for the upcoming year) for the tree. Now I'm thinking that since they have their own places I will probably let them have those ornaments for their own trees.

I answered this thread already, but I got Christmas candles from the kids. They are priceless and I don't want to use them they are so pretty. Although they didn't have a lot of $$, they did really well. I have enough candles to last quite awhile. :lol2: Those $$ stores are the best aren't they for kids to get gifts at.

I have tons of candles that I bought during post holiday sales. Ds went with me last year shopping and helped select them so it'll be even more exciting to pull them out to use this year.
