A nice way to do something a little different with a plain ivy plant is to train it onto a wire form.

You can take an old coat hanger and bend it into a circle or heart or any other shape that you'd like and stick the ends into the soil of the potted plant. You then just wrap the ivy upwards. As the ivy grows, just continue to wrap it onto the wire form.
