With all the rain and cold weather we've had, the birds are totally confused. The purple Martins are trying to get their babies out of the houses, but they won't come. The hummingbirds are back to feeding off the feeders because its so cold. And I heard that the geese are on their way back from up north.
What a summer we've had.

It's been an unusually cool summer here. Just now, outback there were about 25 robins snacking in the grass. It rained today and it's pretty cool outside.

My father told me that he noticed that some birds have already left for the winter...he doesn't see all the differents types of birds which come everyday to eat in his bird feeders....My father has 5 birdfeeders and he is a passionate for birds...

No large amounts of birds I can see leaving New England yet, but by Sept. they should be going.
This post is a good reminder to enjoy their company while I still can! :icon_frow

Our barn swallows departed on friday, that's always a sad day for me.

Our hummingbirds are all gone now and I miss them. Sitting on the porch is not the same without them flying all around me. We have lots of geese coming in to rest on the lake before flying on further south. I love to watch them land - so graceful (but oh so loud!).

Well even the Canadian geese are back and have been for a couple of weeks. They normally don't arrive until closer to the middle of Sept, not the last week in August.

Isn't it funny how we associate certain things in nature with different times of the year? I absolutely love watching the geese arrive in the spring, and am always so sad to see them heading south for the winter. Their call is like nothing else and if I live to be 100 I will never tire of hearing it!! :)
