I remember my mom always having ivy everywhere. She also grew African violets.
My grandmothers never grew houseplants, but my great grannie had African violets, ivy and another plant that I didn't know the name of.
Funny but they weren't very creative when it came to houseplants. When it came to outside gardens, it was a different story.

My mom was a garden club member. I have no idea how many plants she had. I remember the names of a few though.
Spider plant
Asparagus fern
Aloe
Wandering Jew
African Violet
Mother in law's tounge
And various others. I would know them if I saw them, but I have NO idea what their names are. One of my favorite chores was to water the plants for her. I especially loved putting the liquid fertilizer in the water for them. :)

I remember my mom having spider plants, "mil tongue", philodendrons, and aloe vera to name a few. She loved houseplants and definitely gave me my love for flowers and plants.

I know my Mom has (or had?) a huge jade plant and usually has a lot of flowering whatever somewhere in the house. :)
My grandma a little back room with her ringer washer in it and a table just FULL of african violets and many cacti (sp). I think her favorite was the flowering Christmas cactus.

Who can forget gereniums, me!!! Everyone had gereniums I think in our family. They were easy to grow I think, but they never became one of my favorite plants.

My mom was more of an outdoor gardener. But I do remember wandering jew and a jade plant she had forever it seemed.:)

My mom had african violets, spider plants, two huge ferns and lots of others that I don't know the name of. They were always so healthy looking!
