We currently have 8 sheep. Six of them are in lamb and are due in 6 weeks. The other two are lambs from last season.
Today we did the shearing. Here I am in action! :)

And who'd have thought a kiwi would have red hair, wonders never cease. :) maggie 06-07-2004, 02:00 AM We are selling those fleeces, Bethany. We'll probably only get about $50, as 2 fleeces are black and apparently "not worth much". Hardly the big wool cheque a 'big' Kiwi farmer usually earns, but we are happy to add it to the previous $50 and get a few bags of chook pellets or a few rolls of wire for the fences. :bananadan I do keep some wool for spinning and have just finished knitting a jersey for the 14mth old grandson from the black fleece. As for the shears....we use a combination of a mechanical (petrol-driven) handpiece, and the shears for the final tidy-up. We were lucky to buy a really old leather holder , containing 2 sets of shears, at a Farm Sale. They are lovely old tools and great for hanging over a fence post in the sheep yards. The hair? 'Tis the Celtic genes assisted by a little dye-pot! LOL paelthom 06-07-2004, 03:16 PM Looking good Maggie - both you and the sheep. You are one super woman for sure. |
