I remember as a child going to friends and always there was fresh bread on the counter top. The loaves were always large loaves, something I've never been able to quite attain in my bread making. Also with using freshly ground grain, the loaves don't rise as high as using regular flour.
I've made bread now for years, but I'm always on the hunt for another bread recipe to experiment with. Do you bake your own bread and whats your favorite recipe? Is it an old recipe handed down from generation to generation, or is it one that isn't quite so old.

I usually make w/w bread and I have used a friends recipe for the past two years. My dd loves onion bread and of couse the dks are thrilled when I make white bread. I would love to make a good pumpernickel bread but I haven't had good results yet.

Strawberry, I've tried making Pumpernickel bread as well and it turned out like flatbread. :D It was so funny, the kids thought it was pancakes.
The Hutterites make Pumpernickel bread to die for and I always buy 4-5 loaves from them at the Farmer's market. They told me they'd give me their recipe but that it was a huge recipe!!! We bought some the other day at the bakery and it wasn't very tasty after eating the Hutterites bread.

I use an egg bread recipe I got off the internet and fine tuned it to my liking. You can try making larger loaves by putting more dough in the pans instead of relying on the rising to make the loaves large, kwim?
CJ, care to share your ww bread recipe? Do you add gluten and where can I buy it? What does it look like?
Did you get the pumpernickel recipe? I wouldn't mind trying it. Dh would love me (more ;) ) I'd half it or quarter it. You can always freeze the loaves if it makes too much.
