Ryan's troop leader is really trying to get our Girl Scout Troop more involved in outdoors and in helping the community. This Saturday we will be helping the Uptown Revitalization folks fill up the big ceramic planters in our downtown area with flowers. The flowers are provided and all we have to do is put plant them and give them some water to get going. I think this will be a good project for the girls and it will help spruce up our somewhat dead downtown area too. There are 60 planters and they are really big so I hope that ours is not the only troop participating. We are to bring gloves and little shovels and happy hearts ready to work. I think it will boost the girls outdoor spirit to be having fun and getting a bit dirty at the same time.

Anything similiar happening in your area?

Can I brag on the Girl Scouts again?

Our town has had a Memorial Day service for 57 years. This year was the first time that anyone can ever remember a Girl Scout troop helping at the service. Boy Scouts have helped in the past and helped this time as well. Our little troop served refreshments to the people after the service was over. It was held at a local cemetary and we served the refreshments for 2 hours in the funeral home - the girls were a bit freaked out about that part. We took the girls outside for the service and I do believe they understood quite a bit of what was being said. Alright I've bragged enough, but I am proud that our girls were the very first ones to every help out (at least as far back as anyone can remember).
