Yesterday evening, we were sitting in the back yard and I started noticing the lizards. They were running around like crazy. Of course the cat was doing her part to antagonize them. Ryan was begging for us to catch one for her and we were constantly either telling her no or telling Zoe (the cat) to leave them alone. I know it sounds weird, but I love to watch them. The ones we have are at their biggest 6" long from tip to tip and most are much smaller. We have them with the bluish tails and I think they are pretty. They don't seem to bother anything, but then I don't know what lizards do. They like to walk around in the back where we have some trees down and they like to hide under our sidewalk in the front. The sidewalk is wooden, like a pier at the beach. You know it's been a long winter, when you are even happy to watch lizards. LOL

awww pat, I love to watch lizards too. we call those little ones "skinks" and they sure are cuties. we have them all year round and they like sitting on the warm end of the verandah. I think the just eat mosquitoes and small insects and as far as I know they don't harm anything else. our cat likes catching them too but our dogs don't take any notice of them - they prefer the much bigger (5 foot) lizards.

Oh, cute little green lizards! I used to love to watch them when I lived in Florida! Wish that they could survive up here, their great at catching bugs. Guess we'll just have to settle for our Dragon Flies up here. They're good at catching skeeters but when the hummers are here, it's hard to tell which is which!

We have only the occasional lizard around these parts. Our dog chases a few in the long grass, but we rarely see them.
I remember being fascinated by the Queensland skinks, Bethany. They were literally everywhere. However I was none too keen on the frilly lizard that lived under our garage in Brisbane! UGH! (not to mention the cane toads and snakes!) Couldn't wait to get back to the "safety" of good old NZ! :pumpking:

the cane toads are disgusting, maggie, but I don't mind the snakes and lizards. we have a huge goanna that comes and looks in our long windows sometimes. I've heard they are territorial so he must live around here somewhere and is just having an occasional stickybeak.
