I know it's different everywhere, but especially for you East Coast US folks, when do I put the hummingbird feeder back out? I had it for the first time last year and was a bit late getting it. I want to put out several this year but have no idea when. Is there a certain temperature when the hummingbirds come back? Looks like all the other birds have returned, especially the fattest robins I've ever seen.

Also do you make your own hummingbird food or do you purchase it?

Pat, ours usually goes out when we see a hummingbird around, probably at about 55 degrees or so.

We purchase all our hummingbird food. I had heard on a program in regards to birds of any kind, that you should never make them their food. They talked about how birds need specific food and often what we might put in the food isn't good for them.

Thanks CJ, temps are supposed to really rise this weekend. I think I'll get the hummingbird feeders out then and hang them up. I want to make sure I lure all those lovely birdies to my feeders before they find anyone elses.

Thanks Darlene. According to the map, there are hummers about just not at my house.

No hummers here yet. I don't expect to see them until mid-May sometime. I'm ready for them though.

Got both hummingbird feeders up in the nick of time. All day yesterday I was entertained by 2 hummingbirds checking out the feeders. Had to make my own food as well Darlene, just didn't get the chance to go out and buy any. Birds seemed happy with it though.
