Do you remember the dolls you grew up with? Were they similar to the dolls they have today, or were they the old fashioned type. I remember one doll that stood almost as tall as me, had long ringlets (thats what my mom always did with my hair) and was suppose to walk. She never did or maybe it was me and I just didn't know how to make her walk.

I have an antique doll that I picked up a number of years ago that is made of porcelain hands, feet and head and the body is cloth. When I pick her up, her head flops back and her hands hit her feet. I wonder how the little girls kept them from breaking, knowing that they did play with them. Maybe thats why when you see older dolls, you often see their fingers broke off and a few toes lost.

I'm hunting for old dolls and old quilts, so its interesting to see what types of dolls there are from other generations.

Tell us about your dolls?

I still have my huge "walking" doll. My dd played with it= and now she waits for another little girl to love her.

My grandmother made my sister and I "rag" dolls. Then everytime she made us a dress, she made our dolls one to match. I only have one dress that she made though. We lost most of our stuff in a fire when I was 7.

I had a Wendy Walker doll, she was tall and had the most beautiful red hair with ringlets. I took it upon myself to wash her hair and "set" it, I then thought I could give her a trim. I was devastated when Mom told me it wouldn't grow back!!!

My favourite was my Thumbellina doll, she was a soft doll with soft plastic face. She had a string on her back that you pulled and she wiggled. I loved her so much, she was my baby! :)

I love rag dolls, they are so "comfy".

I do have 6 porcelain dolls, one of which is Anne of Green Gables, I haven't found the perfect spot to display them yet though.

Heather, I have porcelain dolls as well and I also have an Anne of Green Gables doll. I wouldn't find it hard to believe if its the same doll. ;)

Oh! I forgot my Drowsy doll- with the pull string that made her say things like "I'm sleepy" "Time to go to bed now" and so on.

I had soo many dolls. They were "new" in the 70's and 80's. I would have LOVED any doll though. I never have had a porcelain doll though. (After we are done moving with the Army, look out! ) I would love a rag doll. Hmmm....I may have to do another project! Matching rag dolls for dd and I! :)
