"Nothing should be wasted on the self-sufficient holding. The garbage collector should never have to call". John Seymour

I love this quote. I've been doing the spring fling over at the village and my garbage has been steadily increasing over the past several days. Usually my garbage is no more than two bags per week. After reading this quote, my mission now is to now have way less garbage.

Do you produce lots of garbage over the year, or is it just specific months you produce more than others.

CJ,

I like that quote too! I think we (DH and I) produce more garbage at different times of the year. Since "Spring" is here, and we are looking to move soon, I will be generating more garbage to reduce any extra clutter. other than that, we try to produce as little garbage as possible!

When we lived in the city we didn't stop to think about garbage. Out it went! 2-3 & sometimes 4 bags a week.
Now that we're on our "farm" we have almost nothing for the garbage collector each week. We recycle all glass, cans (though we re-use lots of cans for the chook grain and for nails etc in the workshop), paper and plastics.
All fruit & vege scraps go to the goats and any food left-overs, bread etc goes to the chooks. Anything else which would once have been tossed in the rubbish goes into the compost e.g. dust from the cleaner etc, brushings from the animals' coats, trimmings shorn from the sheep etc.
Our garbage now is barely half a bag! What a turnaround.

We've halved our garbage in the past year. It's a great thing to do.
CJ, I'm reading John Seymour's Complete Guide to Self Sufficiency book yet again at the moment.

We have way to much garbage and I really need to cut back more. I am going to see if I can find the book you guys mentioned. Maybe it will give me a swift kick in the behind to get me motivated.
