I've never had a clementis or a trumpet vine but I do now. I planted a really pretty clementis - Nellie Moser - looks like peppermint candy. I also planted one orange and one yellow trumpet vine. All were planted along a retaining wall that's made of railroad ties. I sure do hope they grow. I'd like to find one of those cup and saucer vines (not sure that's the right name) to plant there as well. Kinda like my own personal jungle. LOL

I love Clementis! Last year I planted 2 climbing roses, if they didn't make it through the winter, I'm going to replace them with Clementis. Last year I had cut down quite a few sapling trees that we're going in our kennels. I used the trees to build an arch over the walk way into the back yard and hoped the roses would cover the arch.

Oh, I have planted some "Cup and Saucer" seedlings and their coming up now. If we have a "seed swap" this fall, I'll send you some seeds from them.

The trumpet vines are growing - very slowly - but at least they are alive. Looks like it might be a year or so before I reach my desired "jungle" stage.

You aren't kidding about "jungle". I have a clementis that went nuts! I prune it back every spring. I don't know the name of the type I have as it was given to me. They are yellow bells. :)

What I have is a "clematis" . Is that the same thing as "clementis"?

Pat....our neighbors started the trumpet vine in their backyard a few years ago...... . Uuummmmm.....it's a HUGE pain. I love it when it's in bloom but the stuff comes up all over our yard. It's almost noxious. We can't kill it out, it's taking over our world. I hope your's won't be such a problem. :(

Clematis on the other hand is a joy! We have a purple one that grows into and wraps up in our climbing roses and looks just beautiful.

Yep, those trumpet vines are very, very invasive and will take over the world, lol. The people who lived here before us planted one next to the side of the house and the porch and we've been fighting it for 3 years and cannot get rid of it. It was trying to take over the porch and the side of the house. Clematis on the other hand are wonderful!!!

Hi Everyone,
I'm new here, but not new to gardening. I have some experience with trumpet vine - campsis radicans and I grow about 15 different clematis. I inherited the trumpet vine 16 years ago when I moved into this house and it became a nightmare in my small garden. If you would like to know how I got rid of it (was given the instructions from a poster on another forum) I will gladly post them.

Prariemaid,
Your yellow clematis might be a tangutica. Is this it?

If not, go to this site and put 'yellow' in the 'tepal' box, don't fill in anything else if you don't want to and click on 'Search now'.

I don't think there is a plant called clementis.

Palethome,
Your cup and saucer vine is also called Cathedral bells and botanically as Cobaea scandens.

Newt

It appears all our rain is really boosting these vines. I think I'd better keep a close eye on the trumpet vine. It appears to be reallllllllllly growing now. Maybe I should have only planted one instead of two. oops
