View Full Version : Frontier House SusieJD 02-15-2004, 11:40 PM Just watching Frontier House on PBS and wondered if anyone else here watches it? Susie in MN prairiemaid 02-16-2004, 12:01 AM I've watched it a couple times. I have it on tape. :D Old fashioned mamma 02-16-2004, 12:12 AM I have it on tape as well. I enjoyed it, but loved Pioneer Quest way better. Susie, have you ever gotten to watch Pioneer Quest. I was able to meet the Treadways and got to hear them speak as well. They are a wonderful couple and if I had a chance, I'd go hear them again. SusieJD 02-16-2004, 01:36 AM I watched a few episodes of Pioneer Q. Wish I could have watched the entire program series. But I have watched Frontier House all the way through. I haven't taped the program. Hope it comes on again so that I'll have the chance to tape it. What are your thoughts on the series? Do you think that you could do this? I know that I could have done it - maybe ten years or so. I'd love to try! After all, I did a lot of things by hand on my farm. Drilled a well, put in plumbing, remodeled a house (does that count?). You do what you have to do I guess. I like the "Glenn" family. Just hope that they start getting along better and work on their marriage. How long have they been married? I remember her saying that this was her second marriage. http://img17.photobucket.com/albums/v50/SusieJD/Happy/My%20Name/WolfandCubsusaninminnesota.jpg prairiemaid 02-16-2004, 01:41 PM I enjoyed the show. More the second and third time I watched it than the first. The fighting and bickering was just too much in the fore front to enjoy the pioneering aspect of the show. But once I could watch the show without that part bothering me, I began to see things. I liked the Glenn family, but if it wasn't for Karen's pettiness, I'd like them even more. The Clunes were way to spoiled for me to like them but if I were there, I might find a friendship with Adrienne. She seemed nice. Nate Brooks and his Dad were pretty cool. Kristen was funny to watch try and adjust to life on the frontier. I was bothered by the fact that most of the women walked around in their pioneer underwear.lol! I could definitely do a show like that!! I'd jump at the chance. I enjoy modern conveniences but I know that I could manage without them quite easily. I loved what Erin said about feeling like she belonged in the 1800's and that she was mailed wrong. lol I can relate to that statement. How far into the show have you watched? SusieJD 02-16-2004, 01:54 PM I've watched since they were traveling to their properties. The first episode that I watched was when they came up on the property. How much did I miss? Gosh, I gotta start paying more attention to when this comes on TV. http://img17.photobucket.com/albums/v50/SusieJD/Happy/My%20Name/1074948802susie.gif prairiemaid 02-16-2004, 02:05 PM You have watched the show all the way through and now you are watching it again? I don't want to say too much to give anything away. SusieJD 02-16-2004, 02:12 PM I don't think that I've watched the entire series yet. I've just come from putting a note on the fridge so that I'll remember it next Sunday. Did I understand correctly, will next Sunday be the last episode? Are they leaving and going home or is just the one CA family? I'M SO CONFUSED! http://img17.photobucket.com/albums/v50/SusieJD/Happy/My%20Name/1074948802susie.gif Kindred-Spirit 02-17-2004, 03:50 PM I have watched it more then I would admit. :) But I agree that Pioneer Quest is a better show, more REAL pioneering. But still say watch it. I do wish they woudl have shown in both shows, more daily chores something we could learn. Hope you catch both shows completely. prairiemaid 02-18-2004, 02:09 AM I don't think that I've watched the entire series yet. I've just come from putting a note on the fridge so that I'll remember it next Sunday. Did I understand correctly, will next Sunday be the last episode? Are they leaving and going home or is just the one CA family? I'M SO CONFUSED! Susie, I'm sorry I can't help you. The show isn't airing up here in Canada. I've got it on tape though so I can watch what you watch if you let me know (when you know). Love to chat about it. :) Kin ~ You're so funny. Do you have FH and PQ discussion radar? Old fashioned mamma 02-18-2004, 01:56 PM Margret, I think she does. :) calico 02-18-2004, 02:14 PM I have never seen FH but received the book Fronteir House by Simon Shaw for Christmas. It has been an interesting read. It tells all about the families on the show before, during and after their experience. What I like about this book is it has lots of articles and the way it was really done years ago, the true pioneers. AND lots of pictures.....lol....which I like...being so visual! :) I've watched Pioneer Quest and absolutely LOVED it! SusieJD 02-18-2004, 02:15 PM Guess I'll have to make sure to watch on Sunday nights. I really do like the series, even though sometimes the people seem to know nothing about life in the fountier. Last Sunday, the "city" folk family from CA check the "egg shoot" of the chickens to see if that was the reason they weren't laying. I'm sorry, but when I was raising chickens, I never heard of this. Anyone here know of this? My chickens didn't lay when they were molting or if they had chicks. Guess I don't know all there is to know about chickens. BTW...have I ever mentioned my rooster? I have a black on (I don't think he's a paticular breed) that someone let loose in the parking lot of the Second Harvest Food Bank while I was doing volunteer work there. I brought him home and I'm fixing up an un-used kennel for him. Crows every morning! Nice! Guess some one thought "Dinner on the hoof"? http://img17.photobucket.com/albums/v50/SusieJD/Happy/My%20Name/susan_ca.gif prairiemaid 02-22-2004, 08:47 PM Susie, you aren't missing a thing. Sticking your fingers in the vent is NOT a way to see if a chicken is laying! That was an idea someone made up! No doubt it was made up by the teen girls to play a joke on the boys. I can barely stand to watch that scene! SusieJD 02-23-2004, 02:03 AM Well (sniff, sniff) last episode tonight. I'm just an ol cry baby! It reminded me of leaving my farm in MI. Looking back at it as we moved the last bit of furniture out. I didn't think I'd ever get over that. Still miss it. It was several years before I could even drive by the farm. I was afraid of what the new owner's would do to it. The first thing they did was cut down all the trees around the house - UGH! After the show was over, I put my mukalucs on and my hubby's hunting jacket and went out into the night woods to sit. To Thank God for what he's given us. I don't think that I could ever thank Him enough for making me a "country rag-a-muffin". I felt sorry too for the people that had to leave the peace and quite of MT.'s mountains. I just could never do that. I don't know how anyone could leave the country to live in a city (no offence). I'd go bannana's the same way I did when DH and I married and moved to his city home. Well...enough! I'm just so happy to be so deep in the woods!
