When you do, does your fridge and stove get pulled out and you clean behind them? What do you use to clean both? paelthom 02-01-2004, 06:50 PM Please do not call the homemaker police on me! I do pull out the refrigerator and clean behind it about once a year but I haven't pulled out the stove since it was put in. The place for the stove is difficult to get to (right between 2 cabinets). I do clean the inside and outside of the refrigerator about once a month and spot clean in between times. I just use white vinegar and water to clean with or whatever household cleaner I have mixed up at the time. I clean the outside of the stove all the time because Mel is a messy cook. Ours is self cleaning so I don't do the inside other than a little spot cleaning now and then. Canadian gardener 02-02-2004, 12:27 AM heheheheh now you got me! Once in a blue moon, like when the repairman comes and moves it, do I clean in behind :mwhistle: oh the dust bunnies are AWFUL. They qualify as lifeforms. Dozer's hair and even worse our old Samoyed's hair builds up in there for some reason. fortunately for my fridge, I can reach the coils from the one side (they are all down the back, and I poke the vacuum in there when I"m in the kitchen with it. As for the insides, well about every 2 months for the stove, and a lot longer than that for a full clean in my fridge. Most times for the fridge I just push stuff side to side, and do mini wipes, rinsing out the drawers as needed. I eyeball it and do that generally the day before grocery shopping as I do a clean out the fridge dinner special. The stove I dump soda on any smoking remains, then vacuum the clinkers out till the walls and top start to smoke, then I clean. (2 months avg right now) Canadian gardener 02-02-2004, 12:35 AM forgot to say, one of my dirty little secrets, is my vacuum. I use it to clean the dried bits of food grit in the fridge on the day before payday or nearabouts, whenever I have the vacuum in the kitchen and it's getting empty in the fridge so theres room to move the nozzle around. I HATE chasing a dried speck of ketchup with my wash rag all around the fridge. Vacuum FIRST then do any little mini wipes. Most times, a vacuum is all you need. Your vacuum can be your best friend in keeping the fridge looking nice. Try taking a pass at the fridge shelves and drawers at the front and corners where the dried bits collect, when you think of it and see if you can't stretch the evil day when you gotta do the whole fridge into the dim and misty future. calico 02-29-2004, 12:14 AM Hmmmmmmmm......must we share our secrets?? Once a year for the stove, probably 2 or three for the fridge because it's so much easier to move and usually something has fallen behind it that I need! :) The inside of the fridge I am doing a quick clean once a week and the outside as well. I left it WAY too long before Christmas and did a thorough cleaning and am enjoying my clean fridge I have a fit if someone spills and doesn't clean it up! :icon_wink :) Now the stove, usually twice a year for the inside and every day usually a quick wipe down if I use it. SusieJD 02-29-2004, 12:11 PM I clean both once a year, I mean under and behind. I have DH pull them out for me and push them back. There's mostly dust under them, but sometimes an unknown spot is found. Susie in MN duckduckgoose007 03-01-2004, 01:08 AM Our stove..pulled out only when needed. The frig. is easy, we can get behind it with a long duster & Jim pulls the tray out of the bottom maybe 3 times a year & then he can vacuum with the extention. Usually I clean frig. once a week & stove top every night, oven whenever it needs it. Never vacumed the Frig. before though! smnoel 03-01-2004, 01:16 AM I'm from a long line of neat freaks. lol I honestly don't consider myself a fanatic, but find when comparing myself to others that I am quite neat. Raised by strict Roman Catholic parents and my dad was in the military. Need I say more? lol I have a cooktop and a wall unit oven. My cooktop gets cleaned daily. It's white and new, so I like to keep it looking good. My fridge gets cleaned each time I do groceries. I clean it beforehand. Behind the fridge I sweep out when I do my daily kitchen sweep, but underneath not so often. I did just do it a week ago. (vacuumed too) but only because a glass broke and I wanted to be sure none was under there. The previous owners here NEVER pulled out the fridge and you can tell. YUCK. I about died. Thing is, I am not killing myself cleaning. I have an easy schedule and just do my little chores in small increments throughout the day. Today, my house is mother in law clean. :icon_wink She's about to arrive for a visit. Iowamom 03-01-2004, 02:14 PM Behind the fridge gets cleaned out a couple of times a month, or whenever you can start to notice the dust build up :mwhistle: The stove is more like once a year, usually during spring cleaning, can't notice the dust back there :icon_wink |
