We've started doing this and its really made me look around our home for the supplies I need, rather than just running out and purchasing something. When I moved my quilting supplies downstairs, I realized just how much material and fat quarters I had, so I'm not purchasing any for awhile.
When it came time to make a blouse for dd, I used material I already had, because I didn't have a large amount budgeted for crafts and I needed that amount to purchase sewing thread.
Dh is now using up more and more of his wood because he doesn't have a large amount budgeted for wood.
How about you?

I first check to see if I have something that will work. I also try to buy on sale and ahead of time if it's something I think I'll be using. I save my biggest buys for when I have a 50% off coupon from Joann's Fabrics. I don't really have a budget but then I'm just learning to do crafts so there hasn't been that big of an expense before.

I budget in hobbies. (ie. the sites) I never budgeted in craft type hobbies, but I'm going to start. lol I want to be able to take at least two sewing classes a month and am building up my supplies.

Well since I started this thread, I think I've blown my budget big time. I ordered 35 fat quarters the other day and they didn't come cheap. So now I'll have to budget a bit harder for the next few months.

I budget for fabric and craft items too. I think it's a good habit to get into. I get paid every two weeks and I always use my coupons from Joann Fabrics. If I use all of my fabric/craft money in the first few days of getting paid then I am very strict about not buying any more unless it is an emergency (not very likely). The best treat is when I can hold off buying anything in the first week and then save it for a Friday night purchase. I love to start my weekend with new fabric! But if I can get away with saving my fabric budget for the future, then I think that will make me even happier!
