What individual (rather than team sport) outdoor activities do your kids enjoy? Ryan loves to play in the snow in the winter. In warmer weather, she plays basketball in our front yard. We have a free standing goal that can be raised as she grows taller. She loves to ride in the paddle boat and to just wander around outside (as long as the bees leave her alone). She likes to help with the tractor by raising and lowering the front end to help move the hay. She likes to pick and eat the fruit, especially the cheeries. Of course she likes to just run and chase the dogs but sometimes it backfires and the dogs chase her.
Just good, clean country fun. What do your kids like to do?

Zachary loves the playground and nature center. He also likes sliding, running, soccer, basketball, baseball, sledding, fishing, playing with toys at the beach, riding his bike. He enjoys his battery operated monster truck too. lolI love this picture. His face is just too cute.

Sara,
Zachary is so cute! Ryan had one of those Monster Trucks too when she was little - her's was the Barbie version. She loved that thing. She loves swimming and playing on the beach as well. Gosh I'll be glad when it's warm. I'm glad that Zachary has Alexandra - tha't one of the things Ryan needs the most - a play buddy that's always available.

My kids love the outdoors, but of late they can't play in the snow because of the extreme cold. But when they can, they build forts, castles and such. They also love playing basketball. We have a basketball net on a pole that dh has cemented into the ground. Even Michael gets in the act, although he is so short he can't reach the basket. They love fishing, hiking, running, walking in the park, swimming. I don't think there is much they don't like.

You know what's amazing to me is that there are kids in Ryan's class at school who never play outside. They just sit in front of the tv or video game thing. Ryan does watch a fair amount of tv but I don't mind it as much since I know that she is also playing just as much. Now that the weather is so cold, she's been spending hours playing with her Barbies and building condos for them and teaching them school. Her imagination is superb and I think it's because she's had to learn to play with things that don't do all the work for her. Of course her new doll house does say Welcome Home Barbie. LOL

Pat, its a very scary concept, the fact that kids sit in front of the tv, computer or nintendo for hours on end. They seldom have an imagination anymore. I can't imagine what its going to be like when they become adults.
It always amazes me when we drive around small towns or the city, seldom did you see kids outside playing. They are now saying, were raising a bunch of obese kids as well because of their lack of activity.
I love seeing imagination in kids. You should see some of our castles outside. Neighbours are always saying how impressed they are with them. They always tell us how good it is to see our kids outside having fun.
